Blanket Glacier: 13 days
Pre-Expedition (5 days):
Day One:
-Get to know each other including an introduction to the expedition and program.
-Equipment fitting and discussion on preparing for the expedition, which includes packing, food, safety and overall plan.
Day Two:
-Local ski hill training that will include basic instruction on tele-mark skiing, downhill skiing, climbing, waxing, touring techniques, safety and communication.
Day Three:
-Avalanche Awareness preparation that includes discussion on safety, beacon rescue, rescue, precautions and environmental risks.
-A variety of avalanche technology discussions will occur.
Day Four:
-Overall expedition preparation which will include discussions on packing, organization of equipment, group food preparation, transportation, meeting times, individual responsibilities and overall idea of what to expect during expedition.
Expedition (8 days):
Day One:
-Transportation via bus to Revelstoke, British Columbia. (Approx. 2-3hrs from Vernon).
-Discuss, with pilot, safety precautions associated with helicopters
-Fly by helicopter into Blanket Glacier Chalet
-Walking tour of Chalet site and amenities
-Development of duty roster and operational plan for Chalet chores.
-Supper organization proceeded by getting to know each other activities.
Days Two -Seven:
-Daily Chores, which includes wood-cutting, water gathering, weather station report, shoveling, clean-up, heli-pad clearing.
-Review safety plan and routes
-Ski touring, snow shoeing, games, storytelling, meals, snow cave building, igloo building , snow pack studies, sledding., etc.
-Mountain and wilderness discussions (wildlife seen: alpine caribou, wolves, martin, reindeer, etc), topography, weather, routing, emphasis on safety, enjoyment and understanding.
Day Eight:
-Helicopter transportation out of Glacier to Revelstoke.
-Bus transportation to Vernon
-Trip Debrief
